Didn’t click the link but the depth and duration of unemployment we suffer has and will correlate with the quality of our response. So yes, a more competent president would preside over less.

      Ever hear of COVID?

        Indeed I have.

When I said ‘quality of our response’ I meant our response to Covid.

Trump made mistakes. That is inevitable in any rapid government response to a threat.

What should he have done different (using the info he had at the time of his decision) and what difference would that have made to unemployment?

I know I've said this before, but my biggest gripe with Trump's response to Covid was the lack of clarity. He contradicted his own briefings on Twitter, and undermined his own experts. Sometimes his inability to stick to message was breathtaking (no pun intended).

There's a time and a place for acting like a loose cannon. The middle of a pandemic isn't it.

Did it make a difference to unemployment? Probably not. Did it make a difference to people's behaviour? Almost certainly.

            I was only joking

Yes, he should have followed the well documented path that was obvious to all the experts. He could have saved the economy and we would have lost zero lives

Lack of consistency is what I was complaining about, not the path he chose. He said one thing during a press conference, then later that day would Tweet something completely at odds with his earlier message.

If you think that's an unfair criticism, well, let's say I wouldn't be particularly surprised.

Oh, fuck.... Trump said AT THE TIME what the experts were telling him AT THE TIME. The experts kept changing their minds, and now you want to hang it around Trumps neck. God help us.

So the theory here is that Trump made mistakes, but those mistakes had absolutely no negative impact on the economy, none of any kind?

                      Please love yourself.

I wouldn't say zero mistakes vis-a-vis the economy. But I think if anything, Trump made his mistakes trying to keep the economy going as much as possible.

As for the medical stuff, there are still experts disagreeing on aspects of how we handle COVID. I'm like Larry in one aspect...I think Trump changed messages depending on what he was hearing at the time, at least for the most part.
