More bad stuff

So, I posted last month that one of our guys died unexpectedly.
Last Thursday afternoon I got a call that one of my engineers had died suddenly. He'd had some health issues last year, but it was totally unexpected. I'd been texting him back and forward about one of his projects in the morning. His wife had obviously completely lost it. He was in his 50's, and used to have the office next door to mine.
His wife had asked me not to announce it on Friday, as the family had yet to be informed, so I've spent the weekend knowing I've got to make this company-wide announcement first thing Monday morning. I told my boss on Thursday, and went home early just to get away, then we had a social thing on Friday, where I basically had to put on a game face.
It kind of puts all the work stuff and political bollocks into perspective.

We got an email last week about a 40 something coworker who passed suddenly and unexpectedly, I guess on his way to work. I didn't see a cause of death, and google is no help. He worked in the office I used to work in, but I never met him. Strange thing about the email was that it was sent by his manager, who has a hyphenated first name, and a hyphenated last name. The guy who died had only one first and last name, but they happened to be the middle two of his manager's four names. What a coincidence.

That’s a very difficult situation to be put in and have to manage, then stew over the weekend. You can console yourself though that you respected the immediate wishes of your deceased colleague’s widow. It’s about all you can do.

At the social do on Friday, one of my co-workers texted me 'I'm hearing some really bad rumours', and I nearly gave the game away, as I assumed he'd heard. It turned out to be something completely unrelated, and just the typical office nonsense.

Sorry - tough to deal with. We had a woman who hadn't missed a day in 26 years. One Friday, she called in sick. Folks joked about it because she was so reliable. She died that Friday. She had lung cancer - and had been coming to work every day knowing there weren't many days to come. It was like someone tossed a grenade in the office on Monday when it was announced that she'd passed.
