The ones I may have spoken about were local town elections. We own property, our kids go to the local schools, we pay taxes, get involved in the community etc. Green card holders have been vetted, unlike the native-born, so arguably we're a lower risk of craziness than the typical Floridian. Well, it's not really arguable, I'm just being polite.
On the other hand I can see the reason for the rules, and there's a danger of slippery slopes occurring.
