The hand over the heart before flinging the arm out, is an important ingredient.
Which is sort of why all the memes of Superman or random politicians caught in a split-second photo with their arm extended fall flat.
A nazi salute is an action, a motion. A still photo of a guy doing jumping jacks caught at just the right moment isn’t quite the same thing.

And he is saying “My heart goes out to you” as he does it. Context is still key.

He may be a bad Nazi but there’s no denying he’s a world-class troll.

Yeah, of course.
A nazi salute is an action, a motion. A still photo of a guy doing jumping jacks caught at just the right moment isn’t quite the same thing.
Now do Walz and Macron.

"Children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents,” Musk said, seemingly referencing the country’s history with the Nazi party.
“It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything,” Musk added, to cheers from the crowd of some 4,500 people.
Never hear of the Alternative for Germany Party, and would be interested to hear from some Germany members like @Klaus

My girlfriend just said to me I'd have to write 100 pages to explain it. It's complicated...
They are a very diverse bunch of people, from disappointed conservatives over tin foil hat conspiracy theorists to people who dream of a third Reich. They have some people I'd happily vote for and others I'd not even piss on if they were on fire (to take a metaphor I learned from @Jolly ).
-
I recall it was Larry who coined that metaphor. While that other person you mentioned is full of common folksy anecdotes and patronising endearments, Larry’s disparagements and epithets had an original and creative edge of his very own making.

Oh my bad, I thought it was Jolly.
I use it, too.
It's a common expression in the South. Feel free to appropriate it.

I worked briefly in Alabama in the early 90s. I was a smoker then, so you get to know the other smokers standing outside the building even if they work in a totally different area.
I had gotten to know this older guy (probably younger than I am now) and we’d joke quite a bit. One day this woman had joined us for a smoke and she was just butt ugly. Really felt sorry for her.
When she left, he says ‘I’ve stepped over better looking women looking for a place to beat my meat’.

How’s that for a thread hijack?
