    Not quite understand why it could not be reversed. Seems like all the time, one president does one thing, and the next president reverses it.

    Nor do I. This should be a matter of legislation, not executive fiat. But, Congress has long-ago yielded its power over this king of stuff to the executive. Cowards, all of them.

    On another point (and I don't know enough about petroleum supply, etc) I have to wonder how banning drilling on 650 million acres squares with Biden's boasts about the greatest oil supply occurring during his term.

      PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP: "I see it just came over that Biden has banned all oil and gas drilling across 625 million acres of U.S. coastal territory. It's ridiculous. I'll unban it immediately."

        BTW, y'all do know the money generated by offshore oil leases helps fund conservation?

            He could have done it in any of over a thousand days ago, but he chose to spite Trump.

            The pathetic senile old man.

            Biden is invoking the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) to prevent new fossil fuel developments off the East and West coasts of the U.S. as well as in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s North Bering Sea.

            The law gives presidents the power to permanently withdraw parts of the Outer Continental Shelf from future oil and gas leasing—but doesn’t include a provision for how another president could revoke such an order. Trump would therefore likely have to get Congress to change the law before he could undo Biden’s action.

            Biden’s decision, which could pose problems for Trump’s plans to quickly ramp up fossil fuel production when he returns to office this month, was condemned by Trump’s incoming press secretary.

              So, right now, nothing is being drilled there, correct? It is only new drilling - drilling currently in progress will contineu?

                I doubt that Mr. Biden even knows about this.

                And if he does he doesn't understand it.

                  That’s cheap. He kicked Trump’s ass in oil production and now he’s unfairly trying to maintain his record.

                                        @kluurs

                                        The presenter is essentially correct, although he does not appear understand that in Canada, the provinces hold sway over onshore natural resource development and the energy industry. Outside of some specific regulatory issues the federal government has little say or any constitutional jurisdiction. Can’t fault your man for that, the majority of Canadians don’t understand it either.

                                        However, it is not like expanding capabilities in downstream facilities like refining and petrochemicals has not been considered or tried. Both Alberta and Ontario have delved into expansion only to discover that the export market isn’t there and industry has little appetite for the risks involved. Our Prime Minister in waiting, Pierre Poilievre, that your presenter quotes and whose Conservative Party will win a landslide majority sometime this spring talks big about expansion but, as a Federal government politician, really has little power to make it happen. It resonates with the electorate but that is about it.

                                        In any case I have already addressed this very issue here on at least one occasion. Your presenter who knows what he is talking about, only reinforces what I have maintained all along:
