      He’s right it has no real value re the debt. But it gives congress periodic leverage against the president, at least when they’re not of the same party

          Debt ceiling? I want a frigging balanced budget amendment that only allows the drawing of new debt in a case of a full blown emergency with 70% Congressional Approval.

            The debt ceiling forces critters to vote to raise it, and I think it was intended to chasten spendthrifts. It hasn't.
