@George-K said in If Assad falls....:

So this new "boss," supposedly has renounced Al-Queda.

THere's a not-too-small part of me that is skeptical.

I'd do that too until I consolidated power. Worked for the Taliban.

If he can consolidate power. A big if. From what I have garnered the past few days is that there are a lot of bosses and factions among the rebel rabble. Many are quite out there in their militancy and fanaticism. He will have to be sufficiently aggressive and charismatic to remain in the forefront.

        @Mik

Probably more like Iraq or, at best, Lebanon.

@jon-nyc said in If Assad falls....:

The Kremlin said on Monday Russia has granted political asylum to overthrown Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a decision it said was taken by President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on Assad's specific whereabouts and said Putin was not planning to meet with him.

Not surprising at all. The amount of countries he could have go to is quite small.

Doesn’t he have an English wife? Not that he can go there.

            But she must be overjoyed.

Still, harboring Assad will not help them retain their naval base.

Two things can be true. They don’t get along with them as political group, but the venn diagram of their beliefs can be pretty much (completely?) the same.

Hers is a bit of an odd story, to say the least. She's apparently quite western in outlook, very well-educated, good-looking, and apparently very likeable and charming. And yet there she was, married to that butcher.

I think when they first got married, there was pretty high hopes that Bashar al-Assad was going to be different from his father. And he started out with some reforms before falling back into the same things his father did.

That was interesting and made good points. Hope that Syria does not turn into another Libya.

And yet there she was, married to that butcher.

I think when they first got married, there was pretty high hopes that Bashar al-Assad was going to be different from his father. And he started out with some reforms before falling back into the same things his father did.

I think we all do that. In my case it's buying little electronic gadgets and listening to old BBC radio comedy. In his, it's torturing and murdering thousands of people.

                                        I was only joking
