Lot of hospital contracts gonna be negotiated.

Wow! Every surgury is different, I would think. I do not think this is a good idea.

I worked with a surgeon who could do an open cholecystectomy in 25 minutes.
I also worked with a surgeon who would take 3 hours.
Regarding the "contracts" comment. Our group had a contract, an exclusive contract, with the hospital to provide anesthesia services. In that contract it was stipulated that we would accept all in insurance payments that the hospital accepted.
(Aside - we could have made 75% of our income for half the time worked if we stopped taking Medicare).
Now, with this fiat by Anthem, I imagine many groups will come to the hospital and say "Nope -we're not taking that insurance. Figure it out. Make up the difference."
