I was assured by Dr. Fauci that gain-of-function was a fantasy.

Maybe Fauci needs to draw his retirement check in exile.

            Masks? Ineffective.

            Social distancing? Fairy tale.

            Shutdowns? Harmful.

Meh, more likely that Trump gives him a second Presidential Commendation.

Facts are facts… Trump followed ALL of Fauci’s recommendations… And even after the truth started coming out about who Fauci really was, DJT STILL followed his guidance and gave him a commendation.

That's right. How is a real estate developer to decide whom to trust for guidance?

After all, Fauci and Birx (who has admitted trying to stymie Trump's policies) have been there forever. How could they possibly be wrong?

There could have been.. If Trump had bothered to take the meeting with Jay Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta, Martin Kulldorf, and about 10 extremely prominent epidemiologists that were even brought to the White House for a fucking meeting, but DJT decided it wasn’t worth his time to take a meeting with contrarians and decided to just go with his team…

And...why didn't he? You say that he decided it wasn't worth his time.

Maybe the "experts" advised him it wasn't, indeed, worth his time.

Because LabLeak Gain-of-Function Fauci and We'll-obstruct-him Birx told him that these contrarians are whacko fringe kooks.

Look, I think Trump was ignorant and naive, trusting those who were his long-entrenched advisors. We now know, they were wrong. Perhaps he'll be a bit more skeptical this time around.

Obviously, it is easy to look back behind and see the things that were done wrong. The COVID pandemic was such a "one off" event, there were alot of unknowns at the beginning.

I don't think the US screwed things up nearly as badly as the UK, with their exceptionally draconian distancing rules being totally ignored by BoJob and his Tory scumbag mates.

                                  @Doctor-Phibes

At the federal level I think Canada did well with Covid other than its usual poor messaging and trying to keep in synch with Washington. On the other hand, at the various provincial levels, the level it really mattered to ordinary people, it was an uncoordinated mess. A complete dog’s breakfast. Alberta was especially poor in almost every respect; complete mismanagement by the provincial government. All the “draconian” rules were made at the provincial level across the country, yet the federal government somehow got blamed for everything.

I do however think that we here have moved on to the present. Not sure if I say the same about our neighbour to the south.

We shouldn't screw up as bad as anyone. Judging by what we spend, we ought to have some of the best medicine on the face of the planet.

We shouldn't screw up as bad as anyone. Judging by what we spend, we ought to have some of the best medicine on the face of the planet.

I think the biggest mistake Trump made was in his inability to stick with a straightforward message, and going off on these wild tangents and at times contradicting himself. His push for a fast vaccine solution was actually pretty effective, and even if the final product wasn't quite what we were hoping for, I think he did the best he could based on circumstances. The fact that the "scientific" knowledge was evolving is really to be expected.

At least he wasn't partying like it was 1999 while the rest of us weren't allowed to attend funerals, with people being arrested for doing less than government ministers were getting away with.

                                      I was only joking

I’m sorry, but especially with all of the unknowns at the time, when a dozen of the world’s leading and respected epidemiologists and public health experts are in your office for a meeting that you had agreed to specifically to discuss their disagreement with the policies presented by Fauci and Co… You take the fucking meeting. You at least listen.
