MLB needs to go to a salary cap, to even out the playing field and make the small market teams competitive.

And a salary floor… MLB owners should have to spend a minimum to make sure they are fielding a competitive team. The Pirates salary is ridiculously low.

I think the pirates are still paying bobby bonilla.

I see where they lost a year on Skenes' rookie deal. He's due to make $800K this coming year. In three years ( I think) he goes to arbitration. If he doesn't tear his arm up and he pitches at his current level, the Pirates could sign him to an extension, probably in the $125M-$150M range for six years. OTOH, he could probably get more, but maybe not as much guaranteed.

The Pirates have some other good young arms. If they'd just go to free agency and pick up a couple of good bats, I could see them being a playoff team. At least for the next few years.

Yeah, I wouldn’t worry about that. Skenes will be on the Yankees or Dodgers by then.

Well, his rookie signing bonus was nothing to sneeze at. His girlfriend admitted that when he gets lonely, he sends a jet to pick her up.

She is a cute little thing...

Privately owned business that negotiates in good faith with labor to find a good balance between wages, competitive balance, and growth is communist? Where’s the state controlled and owned means of production?
