Smart way to make your point: let the media and the courts make it for you.

      https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2020/07/29/scott-lobaido-blue-line/

A Staten Island artist has been ordered to remove a blue line he painted in support of the NYPD.

Artist and activist Scott LoBaido was told to remove the blue line he painted along a divider outside the 122nd Precinct stationhouse in New Dorp in July 2020.

Artist and activist Scott LoBaido painted the blue line along a divider outside the 122nd Precinct stationhouse in New Dorp last week.

But the DOT sent him a cease-and-desist letter, saying the line has to go and that he had not been authorized to paint it.

LoBaido argues Mayor Bill de Blasio did not get a permit to paint Black Lives Matter on Fifth Avenue, adding that he has no issues with the movement.

“No BLM anti-rhetoric ever at my rallies or anything I do. This is just to support and show the love and respect for the people that protect this community,” LoBaido said.

I'm sure the mayors of New York and DC got permits for their "murals" which did, in fact, obscure lane markings on the roadway, unlike LoBaido's work which is painted on a divider.

      Somewhere, an attorney is salivating.

Boy, I hope so. Not that this is necessarily the full story. I bet there's more to it.

It would be interesting to follow the trial, if any.

And a nice kick in the face for the NYPD, too, innit?

      Edit: "Nice" meant sarcastically.

One might think the ACLU would be on this one.

        I don't, but one might.

          Two questions arise:

          1. Did he, by painting a blue line down the median, break any ordinances or laws?

          2. If so, why are others not being prosecuted for similar, if not more egregious crimes?

(the second question is, of course, rhetorical)

            https://www.silive.com/news/2020/08/street-murals-may-create-a-first-amendment-predicament-for-de-blasio.html

City Hall says there is a Department of Transportation application process groups have to go through to get their street murals approved, a process it said Blue Lives Matter did not complete.

But the mayor’s press secretary Bill Neidhardt said it was not “open season to paint our streets,” arguing that “Black Lives Matter” was a “moral statement.”

Siegel pointed out that it becomes problematic if the mayor did not submit an application to paint his Black Lives Matter street murals but is asking other groups to apply.

Officials In Redwood City, California ran into a similar problem when they allowed a local resident to paint “Black Lives Matter” on a downtown street.

The city decided to wash the the street mural away after being contacted by a local real estate attorney who asked to paint “MAGA 2020” on a street, KPIX reported.

The attorney argued that the street was now a public forum.

Okay, pushback. Good. We start having laws that apply only to some and we have a big damn problem.

@Aqua-Letifer and we should use SWAT teams (hopefully with CNN coverage) of arrests for process crimes, amirite?

Yep, free speech is really not free if it is only for one set of persons.

City officials ignored their own application process for public art projects to paint Black Lives Matter murals around the five boroughs, in order to mark an important moment in history, Mayor Bill de Blasio said as his administration faces claims of First Amendment violations for refusing to green-light other proposals.

“We haven’t said ‘no’ to people, we’ve said, ‘If you want to apply, you can apply, but there’s a process,'” de Blasio said during his City Hall press briefing Monday.

The pro-President Trump group Women for America First has sued City Hall for blocking a mural of their slogan “Engaging, Inspiring and Empowering Women to Make a Difference!” on a Manhattan roadway, while allowing multiple BLM paintings throughout the city.

Hizzoner insists he didn’t block the move, just referred groups like Women for America First and the pro-police Blue Lives Matter to the Department of Transportation’s permitting process. But there was no approval required for the BLM movement.
