The Harris Biography

I couldn't sleep last night, so I went to the guest bedroom and tossed and turned for a while. Unsuccessful, I opened my iPad and thought I'd find something boring to listen to, so I found TuCa's interview with Harmeet Dhillon talking about Harris's history.

Things I learned.

1. She has pronounced her name at least 2 different ways (which syllable is accented) which are documented.
2. Javier Baccerra, former AG of California only practiced law for a year before becoming AG.
3. Harris committed campaign finance violations (accepting $600K in donations when the limit was $200K - a misdemeanor).
4. Her prosecutorial history is erratic - prosecuting the "right" cases.
5. It's musical chairs in California politics - you move up the ladder when a spot becomes vacant.
6. Dhillon has met Harris several times. The woman that Harris was as DA, AG, etc is not the woman we see now. in 2003, Harris was confident, articulate, and determined. No word salad was there.
7. Willie Brown was a huge power broker.
8. Why was Doug Emhoff's history of slapping a woman, in public, brushed away? According to Dhillon, who has prosecuted DV cases, someone who does that in public, most assuredly does it in private.

@taiwan_girl one of the comments she made is that she thinks Harris is suffering from "Imposter syndrome." I'm not sure Dhillon's description matches the "official" description. She describes it as a sort of "Peter Principle" type of thing: You've risen fast and high, and now you're confronted with the reality of it and don't know what to do. Hence the word-salads, etc that were not apparent in her early career.

Or, it could just be the wine.

Could be. I mentioned the same possiblity with Sen. Vance. He has risen pretty far and pretty fast without a whole lot of background experience.

Some people can rise to the situation. VP Harris was not one of them. Maybe her max skill level is somewhere below where she is.

It happens. I have seen it happen in workforce. It sometimes takes a smart person to realize that.

She was obviously nervous in the debate, at least at the start.
