    Couple of observations. First of all, the tech's finger is in the bird's mouth. If we did that to Sid, i'd never play piano again.

    Secondly why do this? Because sometimes, the beak grows asymmetrically. This is more common in hand-fed birds where you feed them with a syringe, and approach the beak with your dominant hand. The bird bites down on the syringe as you squirt the food in and the beak grows unevenly because of the asymmetrical pressure it experiences.

    We got Sidney at 8 weeks, and his beak was uneven back then. We take him for a beak trim about every 8-12 months.

    You can see how his lower left beak is kind of sticking up? Yeah, we Dremel that down.

      Interesting. In the wild, do birds like that wear down their beeks by chewing on things?

      (I read beavers do that)

        I asked the vet - in the wild, their eating is symmetrical, so the beaks grow evenly.

        When we picked Sidney up, the breeder gave us a discount because of the beak.
