Since Elon is now firmly a Trump lieutenant, is there a change in tone on EVs with Trump’s base?

Nothing wrong with EVs per se. I'm sure he rides around the golf course in one. I think what was objected to is the idea that they would be the savior of the planet.

Doubt it.
Trump voters have never been anti-EV. They're anti the government making you buy one. EV's have their applications. For the two car family in the city or suburb, I could see having a EV for one car, IC for the other. I think the USPS' new city delivery vehicles make a lot of sense.
But as the Ford F-150 Lightning has shown, some guy twenty miles from town who is hauling firewood, towing a hay trailer and may or may not have electricity after a bad storm cannot use a Lightning. At all.

Even Elon has criticized the mandates and has stated that the system cannot handle all EV by 2050.

For example...I think this needs to be a tad cheaper (less than $25K), but I could see this working pretty well in a two-car family:
