Did consumers ever had a choice with newspapers, newsletters, bulletin boards, or electronic bulletin boards/Internet forums?
I think so. Things were not as immediate before and not 24/7. You "had" to take a break just because the content was not 24/7.
In addition, weather it was intentional or not, social media companies have made their algorithms almost addicting.
