Talk about word salad. Trump and Biden would be considered palliative after that drivel.

I follow a few musicology types on twitter and have seen reference to this and an attempt (perhaps successful) of canceling a few people who objected to it.

I wanted to leave the comment 'A masterful piece, Prof. Ewell' but didn't rate it as worth the effort of creating a login in order to do so.

I'm guessing he didn't get the orchestra gig.

          I was only joking

And with remarkable consistency, these geniuses have been white males in American society.

Yep, such as Beethoven, the only example she's citing. 😖

Amazing how the author manages to make it all about the US, although the US had little influence on classical and romantic era music and music theory.

I find it despicably racist how the music preferences of the author seem to depend on the skin color of the composer.

@Klaus never let the facts get in the way of a good narrative.

              Or a bad narrative either.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

There was a theory touted some time ago that Beethoven may have been mixed race.

Presumably, if that were shown to be true, this guy would need to revise his opinion of how good his music is.

                What a knobhead.

How odd that European art music was historically written and performed by Europeans.

Particularly, the author notes, in America.

As Ax would say, if the author doesn't like Beethoven, he can always write his own symphonies.

Oh sorry, he's a musicologist. Of course he can't.

“Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is a masterwork, born of the genius of a titanic composer.” We in classical music, and especially in music theory, have become so inured to descriptions like these that we no longer question what’s really being said. But behind such language lie two aspects of Beethoven that remain underexplored: race

                      Precisely when I stopped reading.

Don't these clowns realize they sound like parrots to one another? Have your own damn thoughts why don't you.

                      Please love yourself.

Maybe he enjoys the music of Florence Beatrice Price.
