The "backward holster" was interesting.

So much horse-related stuff is tradition, based on practicality (such as mounting from the horse's left side).

Knew about the revolver carry. Did not know about the issue of the Krag to calvary units. Didn't know anybody still wore brown campaign hats, either.

BTW, this is just the latest installment that Moran has done on the 11th ACR. They are an interesting bunch. While they can be deployed as an armored calvary unit (and have been), their primary mission is to serve as an OPFOR for training armor units. As such, they have some pretty neat gear, including M113s with turrets that serve as "tanks" (fast, economical to run).
