The real estate is worth more as a location than as a bus station, I guess.
Back in the day, I've ridden both Trailways and Greyhound. Used to see a lot of soldiers on leave, single moms, young men traveling to a friends or to a job, maybe a lower middle class couple, etc. Busses were relatively clean, toilet worked, you weren't scared to sit in the seat.
That's all changed. The ridership today is the low end of the social class ladder, the busses are dirty, toilets are stopped up and nobody cares.
Kind of a macro-comment on society, I guess...

Long distance buses are still popular in Taiwan and they are actually quite nice. The "business class" buses have only two seats across and are pretty big (seat/aisle/seat). Others are usually three across (2 seats/aisle/seat). But of course, distances are quite a bit shorter than in America.
Just curious - of our forum readers, what is the longest bus ride you have take before?

Long distance buses are still popular in Taiwan and they are actually quite nice. The "business class" buses have only two seats across and are pretty big (seat/aisle/seat). Others are usually three across (2 seats/aisle/seat). But of course, distances are quite a bit shorter than in America.

On our last trip to New Orleans (2018?), there was track work being done on the far southern part of the City of New Orleans route.
Accordingly, we were "bus-tituded" between Jackson Mississippi and New Orleans. It was about a 3 ½ hour trip - 190 miles. The bus had a 4-across seating arrangement.
Hated it. It was crowded, stuffy, and just plain uncomfortable.
Of course, on the way back, we had to bus it from New Orleans to Jackson Mississippi. The 3 ½ hour ride became a 5 hour ride when the bus broke down about an hour out of Jackson.
The. Bus. Broke. Down.
So we had to sit, roadside, waiting for a rescue bus to leave New Orleans and get us. Mrs. George sat there, in the grass, stewing.
How the hell does that even happen?
Fortunately, the bus was filled with Amtrak customers, and though we arrived in Jackson late, Amtrak held the train for us to make our connection to Chicago.
Then, the rescue driver got lost in Jackson. Got lost.
At least the food was good.
I will never, ever, take a bus in the US. I'd rather walk.

860 miles each way
16 hours each wayWednesday evening board the bus
Thursday AM arrive at Disney perform/compete, PM check in to hotel
Friday AM check out, PM collect the trophy, back on the bus
Saturday AM arrive back home2 nights on the bus, 1 in the hotel
Awesome trip, I'd do it again
