Mostly affects the coaching. I think they ought to open up to coordinators and position coaches. There are some legendary coordinators and coaches that just couldn’t cut it as head coaches for whatever reasons, but changed the game in their other positions.
Dick LeBeau was an average or below average HC, but he changed the game of football with his Steeler Defenses of the 00s… His zone blitz schemes allowed blitzes from any position on the field. Schematically, he was brilliant. Personally, he created a culture where 20 of the meanest, nastiest, and most dangerous men in the history of the NFL would move heaven and hell just to be on hand to listen to him read the Night Before Christmas. He actually is in the Hall as a player, but needs to be recognized as a coach.
