Just released in June, mass spectrometry of two locks of beethoven's hair show extraordinarily high levels of lead.

One was 284 mcg of lead per gram of hair.
The other was 413 mcg of lead per gram of hair.

Normal is less than four.

They go on to say that there may have been contributory factors, like sclerosis of the arteries in the inner ear.
