I was asked to write a recommendation letter for a physician-scientist who’s up for an award at his institution.

This could have taken me hours and hours.

I went to ChatGPT4, asked it to draft a letter for me. I described the award and the evaluation criteria. Then I discussed his research and clinical work (which I lifted from a write up about his clinic that I found on the web). Then I typed two of my own paragraphs, describing his role with the foundation and his role with an NIH-funded biomarker consortium that he and I are both involved in.

ChatGPT produced a damn good draft in 30s. Perfectly formatted. In another 15m I’ll be done.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

My $19.99 this month saved me a half a day’s work.

I have a nice lunch planned on the water in Connecticut in 90m or so.

And then we start getting perilously close to nap time.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
