Even Skynet can succumb to a flawed security update.

        https://www.forbes.com/sites/kateoflahertyuk/2024/07/19/crowdstrike-windows-outage-what-happened-and-what-to-do-next/

At 05:45 EST, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz posted on X, confirming the issue is not a cyberattack and was caused by a botched update.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack,” Kurz wrote, adding that the issue has been “identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.”

“We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website,” he added. “We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”

There is a workaround, he added.

        1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or WRE.

        2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike

        3. Locate and delete file matching "C-00000291*.sys"

        4. Boot normally.

I am going back to America tomorrow, so I made some calls and had this fix expedited.

Probably shouldn’t turn it on, then.

I had several zoom calls today and all the MSFT flunkies had to call in on their phones.

Granted it's CrowdStrike's fault. Good thing most (virtually all) networking routers and switches do NOT run on MSFT/Windows. Else you can't even go online to complain.

Online banking seems unaffected here. At least I had no issues depositing and making transfers online during the past half hour. Perhaps earlier this morning there were problems. Don’t know.

Will learn later if the cancer hospital’s network was affected.

We were unaffected. We don't have any customers that use CrowdStrike.
