The Chinese EV

American automakers will need to make major changes to their businesses if they want to remain competitive with Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) poised to flood the global market, according to analysis published by auto industry consultants.
Absolutely. Chinese EV are all over Asia. Oppo and BYD are the two biggest but there are others. Havent been in one, so no idea of how good they are, but decent range and much cheaper than anything EV in the US. (Think 1/2 the price or so).
BYD, China’s biggest auto manufacturer, already started examining options to penetrate the American market via Mexico
I read a paper that also mentioned Chinese EV companies setting up plants in Morocco as there are some significant benefit for accessing the US market.

Australia, which has no auto industry of its own to protect with tariffs, Chinese EVs are suddenly everywhere. They now make up roughly one-third of electric vehicles sold here, and more than tw0-thirds if Tesla’s Chinese-made cars are included.
BYD in particular is booming. Sales rose by 65 percent last year, said David Smitherman, the CEO of EVDirect, BYD’s Australian distributor.
