Vance may be the most loyal and controllable of the potential candidates. His alleged referencing of Trump as the "American Hitler" may haunt him a bit, but a lot of potential candidates expressed similar disparagements before they saw the light.

      Funny and accurate edit.

      Not unusual however.

J.D. Vance is a good-sounding name. It has a nice ring to it. Not as good as Cyrus, admittedly, but still pretty cool sounding.

He became a Marine before going to Yale.

Born in Middletown, Ohio, Vance served in the Marine Corps before studying political science and philosophy at The Ohio State University and earning a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.

                                    WaPo: It's Vance

                                    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/15/jd-vance-trump-vice-president-announcement/?utm_source=alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=wp_news_alert_revere&location=alert

Donald Trump has chosen Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate, selecting a rising star in the party and previously outspoken Trump critic who in recent years has closely aligned himself with the former president.

Trump announced his pick Monday on Truth Social. “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote. He praised Vance’s education credentials and business experience.
If elected in November, Vance, 39, would be one of the youngest vice presidents in history. He is a relative political newcomer, winning his Senate seat in 2022 after rising to prominence as an author who wrote a best-selling memoir. His selection adds a staunch defender of Trump’s movement to the ticket and, some Republican observers said, it could help Trump solidify his base of White working-class voters, particularly in the Upper Midwest.

Trump’s choice for a running mate was among the most closely watched decisions of his campaign and has taken on new significance in the wake of what law enforcement has called an attempted assassination against Trump at a campaign rally on Saturday in Butler, Pa. Even before the shooting, the decision was expected to arrive at a moment of upheaval in the presidential race. Trump kept the suspense going about who he would pick as his running mate on Monday, with news breaking in the hours before his announcement that Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and North Dakota Gov. Burgum would not be his vice presidential nominee.

Is Vance now the American Rudolf Hess or Herman Goering?

Both of them served in the armed forces with some distinction after all.

As I think about it, I believe Trump liked that Vance had a long string of successes in very different arenas, much like himself.

                                          @Mik said in Vance?:

As I think about it, I believe Trump liked that Vance had a long string of successes in very different arenas, much like himself.

One person I saw recently said Trump had followed the TV interviews of the potential VP candidates very closely. This person said Trump had been impressed with Vance, both with his ability to argue policy successfully and with his ability to think on his feet.

In an interview with Harris Faulkner four hours before he was shot, Faulkner asked him about his VP choice. Trump replied he'd been giving it a lot of thought, focusing on choosing someone who could be President and who could support his policy initiatives.

I guess he thinks Vance could be President...

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton
