So far Labour has won 412 seats, while the Conservatives have slumped to just 121 and centrist Liberal Democrats have taken 71. Reform UK, a successor to the Brexit Party, is set to pick up four seats, as are the left-wing Green Party.

It was high time to kick the Tories out, they've been circling the drain for quite a while. Keir Starmer is OK, but not exactly inspiring. Hopefully he can keep the hard left at bay.

I'm not really that connected to it all, TBH. I get most of my information from The News Quiz and Have I got News for You, which are comedy shows.

For some, the election was a 1-issue concern, that 1 issue being immigration. Most of those people probably voted for Nigel Farage because the Conservatives failed regarding immigration just as they did in so many other areas.

Nigel Farage, we should remember, was the man who said that Brexit would transform Britain into being so much more successful, and now preductably refuses to take any of the responsibility for the current mess, and has moved on to blaming a different bunch of foreigners for all of Britain's woes.

In terms of popular vote, they did worse than they did with Corbyn years ago.

Conservatives and Farange (combined) got more votes.

Let’s see how he will fare now that he has won his seat in Parliament. Am sure he will continue to back into the limelight at every turn in his determined effort to degrade Toryism as well as offer facile solutions to problems and pander to the emotions of the common rabble.

Farage is of the sort he would drown you in a spoonful of water if given the chance.

I rather enjoy British politics and find nothing incomprehensible about it. I wish we had the same level of political maturity in this country.

Farage seems able to fool and so appeal to some people. He's a posh boy who subtly spreads working class discontent and hate.

As for Sunak and his Tory cronys, I reckon folk are simply sick of his and his mates self-serving nepotism, jobs and deals that are legal but hardly moral, and sick of 14 years pretty incompetent sycophantic governance.
I almost cheered when Rees-Mogg lost his seat. And also Liz Truss who didn't even have the grace to congratulate her opponent.

Say what you like about lefties like Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott but they seem to serve their local population who voted for them to represent their local needs.
That's what you want when you vote.
Our system is simple. You trust that local elected representative to choose a decent leader, hopefully someone with obvious intelligence, kindness, and physically fit.

Good luck to Starmer over the next decade I say.

The only thing that matters is parliamentary seats.

The only people who ever talk about the popular vote in the UK are the parties that never win. With proportional representation, they wouldn't lose as badly, but they would still lose. The difference would be that they would have a much bigger influence, and there would be a never-ending series of coalition governments. And the only people that want that are the people who never win.

And if you're going to combine Farage and the Conservatives, then you should combine Lib-Dems and Labour, since they're also nominally left-of-center.

One thing I noticed is that a number of people are saying "Oh, we really need to factor in the Reform Party now", presumably based on the fact that they got 4 seats, but nobody has said that about the Liberal Democrats, Scottish Nationalists or indeed Sinn Fein or the DUP, who presumably nobody has a fucking clue about. I fail to see why Nigel Farage is more important than Mary Lou McDonald. Can anybody honestly say they know who she is?

No, agreed, but people have to choose.
You certainly wouldn't want a racist, bigot, misandrist or misogynist voted in as a leader, just as you wouldn't want a convicted criminal, or frail old person.

The last 14 years have been pretty awful for Britain, from Dodgy Dave Cameron, throughout the farce that was Boris Johnson and 'era' of Liz Truss, to self-serving Sunak, its been all too easy to discern their lies and read about their shady deals.

And Farage is right up there with the worst of them. The idea that he will serve his electorate of Clacton who he insulted only 8 weeks before standing & becoming their MP is surely rather optimistic.
