Stuart, Chaffee, Walker. Sheridan...Booker
-
The U.S. Army keeps trying to get away from a light tank, but they keep coming back to needing something to field the niche occupied by the role of the light tank. The ability to move fast enough to scout and probe, but with enough firepower to provide troops with effective direct fire support.
Booker is actually closer to a medium tank than a light tank. It brings an effective main gun (105mm) and can come off the plane fueled and ready to fight as soon as its tracks hit the runway. The Abrams can't do that. (Abrams are shipped on an airplane with the turret detached.) Besides, you get one Abrams or two Bookers on a single plane. Plus, the Booker uses diesel and uses less fuel than the Abrams, so it's more logistically friendly. And, since the Booker essentially uses an Abrams-type turret, you can literally cross-train your tankers.
