The British pub scene is definitely changing. I went on a pub crawl with my brother in Preston in 2020, and it was woeful, the place was deserted - this was just before Covid arrived. When I was growing up it was wall-to-wall pubs but a lot have closed.
Having said that, where he lives in Chorlton, a suburb of Manchester, it's very lively. There's a lot of
aging hipsterspeople with a bit of disposable income, and it's a great place to go out - there's a ton of decent pubs. -

It's a bunch of people going from bar to bar, right? I don't understand the concept. Sit down, drink away, call an Uber, go home and puke.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

If you had any half-decent pubs you'd understand, but yes, it's going from pub to pub, and having a drink in each one. It's a nice way to spend an evening. In Britain, the pubs are typically spaced such that you get a 5 minute walk in between drinks, and then often with careful planning you can walk home too, so you get enough fresh air and exercise at the end such that puking is avoided.
