Credit Card Weirdness
-
I went to pick up some sammiches from a local restaurant today. I had called in the order and it was ready for me when I got there.
I noticed that, for the first time, they accept Apple Pay. So I double-clicked the side button on my Apple watch and touched it to the screen. My payment was immediately accepted.
The guy asked if I wanted a receipt, and I thought, "Why not?"
When I got home, I looked at the receipt and it shows the last four digits of my card: "Visa 0909."
I don't have a Visa that ends in 0909.
I checked the websites for all my credit cards, and none of them show this transaction, or for that matter, a credit card ending in 0909.
What the hell?

Did you use a virtual card number?
Maybe you set it up a long time ago or didn't notice and just clicked ok to set it up.
When I use the Microsoft Edge browser to make a payment, it offers to use a virtual card number, it is just one-click to do this.
A single-use credit card number, also called a virtual credit card number, is a unique 16-digit number that's linked to your credit card account and is meant for one-time use. It's different from a physical card and doesn't share the actual card details with a transaction, making it harder for fraudsters to steal your information.

@Klaus said in Credit Card Weirdness:
Apple pay and Google pay both use virtual one-time credit card numbers when you pay. Your real credit card number is never revealed.
Every time I've used Apple Pay the last 4 #'s on the credit card were on the receipt - the CORRECT 4 #'s.
That's why I found it odd that "0909" appeared on the printed receipt.
That said, this vendor JUST started using Apple Pay, so it might be that other, older, systems aren't doing that yet?
I dunno....
