How Much is your Storage Unit Costing You?

I always thought this would be a pretty good business to be in. After you get the land and build the unit, there is not a lot of continuous maintenance, and not a lot of employees needed. Maybe some high(er) costs at the beginning but not so bad after that. And people keep getting storage units.

I had a friend who laughingly complained about spending (for example) USD$500 to store a $100 piece of furniture!!!

How much is your storage unit really costing you?
It's definitely more than you think.

I had one after we bought the Cheddarshack. Used it as a temporary storage thing while we slow-moved furniture up north before closing on the house. I think we had it for about 2 months. Don't remember what I paid.

All my worldly possessions were in moving cubes for two months while we were homeless, between CA and TX. Now I only wish I had a safe deposit box, but banks don't do them much anymore.

I have one for my bike, but since I have it I put a few other things in it.

I’ll be getting a bigger place this summer and won’t need it. I think I pay 115 or so a month for a 7x7 climate controlled unit.

The article doesn’t resonate with me. I’m paying 115 a month to not have to put my bike inside my apartment. Totally worth it, especially for just a few months.

Me too, approximately, half my possessions in 2 pods for 3 months.

Then when I opened the Pods, I threw about half of it away.

It's not a bad business. Problem comes when you have people who get behind in their rent or who abandon their belongings.

But there are ways to screw them over...
