Not sure that a Lincoln-Douglas type of debate would work in todays world.
President Trump would just go off on unrelated tangents and ignore the actual thing he was supposed to debate about. President Biden would go off on unrelated tangents because he forgot what he was supposed to debate about.
Anyway, I though this quote was (unintentionally?) funny
Last time around, Biden and Trump just yelled over one another, and the highlight of the VP debates was a fly landing on Mike Pence’s head.
Surely we can do better. But how?
There’s only one person we want to answer that question: Free Press contributor James Fishback. He runs a high school debate leagueThis newspaper thinks that is absolute best person the to answer this question? (I am not saying he is not qualified, but I am sure that there are other presidential scholars equally as well qualified.)

Again, I think this is a situation about the subtle of the English language. Why didnt they go and ask the head of the National Speech and Debate Association? (www.speechanddebate.org) I am sure that person is quite qualified to answer and provide input. So, for me, there is not ONLY one person to ask on this. I would have said something like: "We asked so and so, because he is well qualified to provide input on this because he started and run the ......"
