Russ Roberts interviews him about his book on his EconTalk podcast.

    Fantastic.

They’ll end up, after a lot of drama, with the same formula they use every time they have a trifecta: take away health care and food assistance from low income families and use the money to fund tax cuts for their donors.

He concentrates his story on the south side chicago culture and its effects, yet he is proof that with ability and hard work, even a backwards culture won't stop you. And of course he has no stories of the racism he faced as he entered into "white academic" culture, since he was instead faced with relentlessly open armed support. The only push-back came when he became an outspoken conservative. His story is a slightly sad one in that it demonstrates the importance of intellectual ability when it comes to succeeding in his rarefied levels in his field, and yet even he is uncomfortable with broaching that subject, and prefers to concentrate on the admittedly still important cultural aspects. I have his book on my Kindle and will work my way through it soon.

      Education is extremely important.

        I’m waiting for the audio.

I hope he reads it himself.
