@Jolly, what policy fix would you like to see for this Montana property tax issue?

Kurt claims that over the last couple of years, his annual property taxes have soared from $895 to almost $8,000

$895? I can see why he's pissed, but he was getting away with paying nothing at the old rate.

Montana has no state or local sales tax.

The money needs to come from somewhere.

      I was only joking

For starters, allowing seniors to freeze their property taxes.

OK, but the money still needs to come from somewhere. What's your total sales tax - 9.5%?

So, you're paying, you just don't notice as much.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of high property taxes, it hits the elderly proportionally harder. I'd rather they taxed income.

We'll know we're in the end times when they start taxing the taxes.

That post showed up on a screen in Virginia. Please remit ¢7 to Richmond Department of Taxation.

Mine were a little under 800.

                    Per week.

They’ll end up, after a lot of drama, with the same formula they use every time they have a trifecta: take away health care and food assistance from low income families and use the money to fund tax cuts for their donors.

I'm still traumatised by the Community Charge introduced by Margaret Thatcher in 1989, where I paid the same amount in tax renting a single room in Chester as the richest man in Britain who lived in a fucking castle 4 miles away.
