They like big butts...

Wife is engrossed with the NCAA women's softball, as usual this time of year.
Many of the pitchers generate more velocity than you would think, often almost 70mph. Something I noticed...Most of these young women are a little thick-waisted, with fairly substantial derriere and thighs. I'm guessing that's how they generate power, with core and lower body muscles. Very different than how guys generate speed and power...

throwing speed is an interesting thing. It isn't based on raw power. Otherwise the guys who can bench 700 pounds could throw 100 mph. Or more realistically, the top speedballers would look like they have big muscles. But the speed of the ball is a complicated thing having to do with the length of the bones, muscles, and tendons, and how they all interact, and what one is born with, is what one has, more or less.

Softball uniforms have the tightest pants ever made in the history of the world.
As the poet said: Lord have mercy, how'd she even get them britches on?

It’s similar to the bell ring sledge hammer carny game. It’s not about the strength of the contestant, but the speed of the hammer coming down. A 150lb guy with full extension and form will do better than a 250lb weightlifter that’s driving the hammer as hard as he can.

And it is closer to the hitter than regular baseball. So, it seems even faster
