Any thoughts on who Trudeau's replacement might be?
Word has it that the former Governor of the Bank of Canada and after that post, governor of the Bank of England is eyeing the leadership. He has all but announced his intentions. I would support him, he would return the Liberals to a centrist policies with fiscal responsibility as it was under Chrétien.
Other options are lack lustre.

There are already enough populist pseudo-conservatives fucking up the world. Another, especially one with no policies and barks mindlessly like a schnauzer at everything that moves, is not necessary. Poilievre is definitely all hat and no cattle. Can’t stand him or what he disingenuously purports to represent.

There are already enough populist pseudo-conservatives fucking up the world. Another, especially one with no policies and barks mindlessly like a schnauzer at everything that moves, is not necessary. I haven't followed closely enough to have an opinion.
But he talks a good talk, doesn't seem obnoxious. I don't know enough of his policies, especially in contrast to "The Dauphin's" to really form an opinion.
Does he have any serious competition?

He has no known or apparent policies to speak of other than axe the carbon tax (yawn) and that everything bad with the country and the rest of the world is Trudeau’s fault. Ho-hum.
He is obnoxious and, I am told from credible sources inside the Conservative Party of Canada, an impossible and plain nasty person with whom to try to work.

I used to quite like Chretien when we lived there. There was certainly none of that namby-pamby new-age nonsense coming out of him.

At least you have a credible candidate in Carney. We are faced with discerning who will do the least harm to the republic.
Carney is not in the running. Trudeau has yet to step down as leader of the Liberal Party or get turfed by his caucus. Unless either one of those happen he could still lead the party into the next election in 18 months or sooner if his government falls in a no confidence vote. As it is right now, the Trudeau Liberals would lose and be replaced by a Poilievre led Conservative Party majority in Ottawa.
Would it change a lot in the country? Probably not all that much in the big scheme, at least not much in the way of national defence spending and foreign policy which are the only two issues of interest to me.

There is an effort inside the Liberal machine to bring Carney in as an alternative to Trudeau. While he hasn’t said yes or no he has indicated some interest by dropping hints during public statements. Time will tell, although my gut feeling tells me that there will be no caucus revolt - the opportunity for that was last September and is now past - and Trudeau will choose instead go down in flames in the next federal election. After that The Dauphin will have no choice but to resign make way for a new leader. Carney then may not want to have to clean up the internal mess Trudeau will have left in his leadership wake.
