Just no.
It's nice to be recognized, but people are just doing their jobs.

Many companies including healthcare are announcing pay cuts for many months for employees starting at 15% for 100k and over and approaching 25-30% at higher ends and even 50% at the top.

@Jolly Agreed. I'm very very appreciative of essential works - but scarce stimulus dollars need to be focused on keeping the economy functioning.
Only way this bonus makes sense is ff essential workers need more incentive to keep working - that would make sense. (i.e., mass defections, refusal to work without it)

Chicago Symphony Orchestra announced 20% pay cuts for members of the orchestra and many administrative staff.
Riccardo Muti has agreed to a 25% pay cut, dropping is salary to ...$2.25M.

@Loki At least it's not layoffs. And as crappy as it is - it's not like the workers have an alternative for a paycheck.

Has anyone ever ask these essential workers whether they prefer $25k cash bonus or the 7pm nightly applause?

It's their job. Right now, it can be a particularly nasty and dangerous job. But over the years, I've known multiple healthcare workers that acquired some type of disease at work, from HIV to tuberculosis. None of them got 25 grand.
Do. Your. Job.

Has anyone asked me if I prefer to applaud them or give them money?
Also these things have slippery slope issues. There’s definitely a gradient of essential.

If you have unlimited free money, why stop at $25K?
Why not $100K?
Why not $100,000,000K?

Since I'm only part-time, do I still get an extra check?
