Attended a concert yesterday. Can't get more epic. 273 musicians on stage, and an additional small orchestra off stage.

If you get a chance to see this symphony, go. It's great.

I've had the pleasure of seeing it twice. Once in Milwaukee (Eco de Waart), and once in Chicago.

The Chicago concert was by a community orchestra (Symphony of Oak Park River Forest) but in Orchestra Hall, where the CSO performs.

On a related note, D2 and I are seeing the Beethoven 9th next weekend. I think it's my 4th time.

I've got you covered for the Mahler 8 - heard it at Medinah Temple - and I think it was around 1992 or so. I don't recall if it was Solti who conducted it, and I disposed of most of my collection of program notes years ago.

What was the orchestra? Conductor? Soloists?

It was a second tier orchestra. But still pretty good.
