Thomas is not a polished route runner, but he has two things you cannot coach - size and speed. At the combine, he ran a 4.33/40.

    At 6'3", 210 lbs.

Everything that I’ve read has him in the truly game changing level at WR. A podcast that I’ve listened to with a retired Steeler Scout and one of their clubhouse reporters do mock drafts and are thrilled when he’s available.

He's got a couple of things to make you pause just a bit. He was the WR opposite Malik Nabors. Malik should have won the Biletnikoff and he usually drew the best CB. Thomas scored a lot of TD's, with a single, slight fake and then putting on the afterburners.

The other thing to consider, is that he gets the dropsies at times for unexplainable reasons.

Boom or bust. IF you can keep him healthy and IF you have a good defensive line coach, I think he's a steal at that spot. Before the season, there were rumors that he might have 1st Round talent. He gets off the ball very quickly and he's got good side-to-side speed. He needs coaching and reps.

Saints didn't have a third-rounder, so I traded back in the first and swapped for a 30 and a 62.

            1. Kingsley Suamataia
              OT BYU

            2. T'Vondre Sweat
              DT Texas

            3. Payton Wilson
              LB NC State

            4. Brandon Coleman
              OG TCU

The BYU guy was on my radar, but if the OT from Georgia had still been on the board, I wouldn't have traded out of 14. Sweat is a run-stopper and would pair well with Breese, the #1 from last year. Wilson is in more than one mock for the Saints... Davis is getting very long in the tooth and while he had a good season last year, it's cliff time. Davis is very fast and can cover a lot of ground. Let the rookie learn from the All-pro. Coleman? Don't have a clue. Just took the best guy available on the OL. He was a tackle in college, but projects as a guard.

Just did four rounds, because after that, it's BPA out of the cloud.

Sweat’s on our radar, too. But I really think we go with a C and CB combo.

Don't know why the board changed the C&P order. Picks should be 30,45,62,93 for the four rounds.

What are you guys expecting from your team this week?

Pittsburgh fanbase is up in arms wanting us to take Mims or one of the 2 top centers. I personally don’t like those choices.

Mims is huge, but he’s only had 8 starts and only finished 4. He missed half the season with an ankle injury, got the high line ankle surgery, then injured it again as soon as he got back. He pulled his hamstring at the combine. Even if you keep him healthy, he’s raw and shouldn’t be on the field for a year…

As for the Center, Graham Barton only projects as a C. He hasn’t taken a snap at the position in 4 years. You don’t spend a high pick on a position of need that HAS to start week 1 on a guy that you don’t know can do the job. Powers-Johnson has at least played the position and is a very big man, but then there’s the question about investing a first round pick into a C. Due to the verbiage of the CBA, if they decided to extend the 5th year option to the guy, the tender would be based on the average salary of the top 5 O-Line players, not Center. That tender amount would be twice what the highest paid C is making in the league. Plus, I don’t think the drop off between him and Frazier in the 2nd or even Beaux Limmer in the 4th is as big of a difference as you get looking at Receivers and CBs at the same spots.

I think I would love to see Pittsburgh trade down a few spots and grab Cooper DeJean. The guy is incredible as a Slot CB, can play on the outside, too, and also play in the 3 Safety Big Nickel sets. Between Porter, Fitzpatrick, and DeJean, we would have one of the best DB units in the league, which would open up a lot more opportunities for our edge rushers and D-Line. The defense becomes elite.

Then I would like to package the pick from the trade down along with an another to grab a mid 2nd round pick to grab a WR (hopefully Pearsall). If Frazier is around at 51, take him for C. If not, then grab Ohrohroro or Jenkins at DT…

I don’t think I touch Tackle at all unless it’s a developmental guy in the 5th…

I think we'll be going for defense this year. We SHOULD have the O-line shored up, but I question the depth. We need a nose tackle and maybe a center. I suspect we'll pick up a WR along the line as we won't be able to keep all of them.

At 14 I think you go for Latham. He can start immediately, and will be a future Pro-Bowler.

He's a grown man, but I think he's naturally a RT. A lot depends on where they think Ram is in his recovery process.

@Mik Mims had been linked to the Steelers A lot through the process. He’s a RT, played on the Bulldogs (with our Tackle Broderick Jones and TE Darnell Washington) so I read up on him. He will either be an all pro or out of the league in 3 years. He hastremendous physical tools and is a big, big, man. Jonathan Ogden is the comp… The issue is that he only has 8 total starts, 103 pass sets in his career. He missed half of last year with ankle injuries. He had surgery in the middle of the season, came back and injured the ankle again. Then he pulled his hamstring at the combine.

If the kid stays on the field, he will be a huge addition. If he doesn’t? Ouch.

I was personally rooting for a trade back, or taking one of the CBs. It’s not a huge need, but it is a need, and if we paired one of those guys up with Joey Porter Jr, our backfield would be scary…
