I think those folks do not need this article to make that unsupported leap. they will fabricate whatever they need. This may not be the last pandemic of our time. It is good to examine what may have been mistakes in this one. It should serve to design a better defensive posture for the next one.

Maybe not a hoax, but they were so far enough off on understanding the scope they forfeit expert status. After that do their predictions become hoaxes? No - but the effect may be the same.
This is why you establish goals and a way to measure them. It works better than just screaming insults at people who don't understand the problem, and that includes almost everyone.
