I think there are similar, if not identical, statutes here as well. Although on the surface they appear laughable, they can and are used to haul suspected criminals into custody during ongoing investigations for other offences. Criminal tax laws can be very useful in the pursuit of criminals of the organized sort. After all, Al Capone went down on tax charges rather than racketeering or numerous other offences.

I was going to comment something similar. I believe that there are a number of mobsters that had to be busted on tax laws.
