I think it would be tragic to have Trump/McConnell do a quick replacement of her, especially if part of the process occurred after a Biden victory but before seating of the new Senate.

I don't mean tragic so much for the justice they'd appoint, rather I think that would significantly increase the support for court packing in response.

False equivalence, though. The rules for appointments for presidents and supreme court justices are very different, as are the honest expectations of both. I get your point but it's still not quite the same.

It's not just about the expectations and rules, it's about the fact that she has not revealed this for two months. I understand the need for privacy, but as a public figure, would this lack of candor be acceptable for a President? That, more or less, was my point. I have little doubt that she can, for now, function in her role on SCOTUS.

I have lots of doubts. Anybody as old as RBG has to have some cognitive decline.

RBG is a person of consequence and The Supreme Court is still a dignified institution. I would hope we all have the dignity to treat her and the court with the respect it deserves.

Obviously we should do no appointment now should the worst happen.

Maybe, but she is smart enough to not allow much recent video to exist.

I took a quick look and can't find any from the past few years.

Indeed. There are several people on this forum with whom I disagree on many things. However, we are friends, and our political views don't get in the way.
