    RIP, great lady.

The last living tie to my late mother has now passed. Dame Vera Lynn's voice was always played on the old mono phonograph in our house throughout my chilhood and teens.

Rather sad and bittersweet. There were a couple of those tunes that always brought tears to mother's eyes. It was only after my mother's health started to dive that i found out why.

    Elbows up!

          Thanks, Mark!

I should add that I disapprove of the obit writer's use of the word 'phlegmatic'. I'd go with 'stoic' or even 'becalmed' -- though that's probably not entirely on point, either.

Did she ever manage to get rid of that phlegm?.....

                    Very nice.

Incidentally, my dad died on Battle of Britain Day, something he would have appreciated, if not enjoyed

                    I was only joking

They were hoping that there would be a Hawker Hurricane along with with the MKI Spitfire to do the fly past at Dame Vera' s funeral on Saturday, but the Hurricane for some technical reason, got grounded. Hence the other Spit with invasion stripes. Too bad because the Hurricane was the primary RAF fighter in the Battle of Britian.
