Meanwhile, in Taiwan

I have followed the protests in Hong Kong. Frankly, I'm embarrassed that the U.S. only tries to sabre rattle, knowing full well we will do nothing.

The Senate on Thursday unanimously passed legislation [the House passed it a day earlier] to impose sanctions on Chinese officials trying to stamp out political dissent in Hong Kong, sending the measure to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
... The White House has not said whether it would support the measure ...
Congress has provided the legislation, let’s see what Trump will do with it, if anything.

Lad, if Congress passed the legislation, Trump has little to do with it, does he not?
So the president doesn't really have any effect on anything???????
(Just teasing you Jolly!!! )

I'm glad to see it, but would like specifics. Probably more sabre-rattling? Hope not, but this tit-for-tat is nonsense.
On a personal side, this may make my importing of stuff from China much more expensive. There are no manufacturers yet in the U.S. to build what I need. Think I'm going to get a major hit financially.
Thanks Trump! Thanks Xi!!What has been barely reported upon are the floods taking place. From videos, it looks like Wuhan is completely flooded, and the stuff I order is made in Wuhan. I have not heard anything from our contacts in Wuhan for several weeks now.
I have said this before: if you need something that is manufactured in China, get it now. Supply chains are broken due to the pandemic, as well as flooding. When our stock of something runs out, it may be the Fall before we are able to restock. Maybe not even then, don't know.

Taiwanese news programs report the floods in China. I am not aware of American news outlets report the floods, haven't seen it on the BBC either.

Why not?
It's not like there is some flooding here and there, the destruction is massive. Even the Three Gorges Dam is indicating some structural weakness. Hard to tell though, as the CCP controls everything, and spins everything to make things look under control.
It's a national disaster in mainland China, yet the news media ignores it. Go figure.
