Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is banning cities and counties from ordering people to wear masks in public places, nullifying such orders adopted by at least 15 local governments across the state Wednesday.

Yeah, this happened today, 2020 July 16.

I was supposed to be going to Savannah in October.

      Somehow, I don't think I'll bother.

      I was only joking

I think he has a good reason

Kemp has maintained that local jurisdictions do not have the authority to order residents to wear masks. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson was the first local official to defy Kemp and order masks for his city, and had said police would start writing $500 citations to businesses that didn’t enforce the law.

If they don't have authority then they don't have the authority.

Lynch mobs are bad, even if for a good reason

Well then he should have mandated for the state and like yesterday.

I have zero tolerance for this mask BS anymore. Wear a fucking mask even if it doesn’t work. Anyway it’s gonna cost Trump the election. Great job supporters.

They only don’t have the authority because he took it away with his order.

It’s asinine to not invoke subsidiarity here. Dense cities and rural towns don’t need the same rules. Put the locals in charge.

This discussion usually come to vulgar language pretty quickly.

After 2 or 3 exchanges that feign reasonable intention, it just blows up.

That might be a nice way to classify topics, posts until vulgarity.

How many lives will be saved in the US by people who don't wear masks starting to wear masks in the next month?
Or how many lost by lack of mask wearing? Is it 5 or 10, or is it 100 or is it a thousand?
I don't know if I could even make a wild guess, but if I had to I'd say probably fewer than 100, probably fewer than 20.

Will mask wearing hurt the economy? Probably not much.

On balance the mask wearing is probably good. But I think it deserves a reasonable, critical discussion, that I think is absolutely impossible.

Now we have so many states reshutting down because of no masks. If that was the strategy to help Trump win the election I would love to hear it.

Seems to me people are going to freak out when they lose their jobs and can’t go to college and those working have to continue to provide day care at home.

Next up cancellation of all the sports seasons.

But hey keep arguing about masks. Great job unless again this going to go in Trump’s favor. If that’s the case I am missing something huge.

Oh and those who can pay taxes, you just voted in another huge increase to pay for your right to not wear a mask. Brilliant.

How do you know states are shutting down because of no masks Loki? I never see anybody sans mask around here but apparently the numbers are getting bad.

The governor hired 100 people to enforce masks and distancing.

The governor hates this region because this region does note vote democrat.

The business owners around here are, all of a sudden, terrified.

Today the golf course locked the clubhouse door and now transacts business outside on the sidewalk.

Today I heard the idea that if all southern governors said, no college football unless everyone stays home for the next 2 weeks, this thing could be fixed quickly.

                          It might work.

If for six weeks, everyone who left their apartments or properties wore a mask while they were out, not only could all businesses open but the number of cases would become nominal.

For a lot of people, there's a big difference between 2 weeks and 6 weeks, but fair point. I'm not even sure everybody needs to wear a mask at all times if they take social distancing responsibly.

@Jolly when you post stuff like that, it makes me wonder how long we all have until we see an investigative reporter scroll through this place on CNN. Y'know, with the screen all flickery because the monitor refresh rate and the camera are out of sync, and a voiceover of some guy explaining how terrible it is that this has been going on all this time.

I give it 3 to 5 years if we're lucky.

Fear of the cancellation mob is legitimate. Being considered Evil is a powerful dehumanizer, and the left knows that very well. Unfortunately it is also a very easy idea to sell. There is no price for considering the other tribe evil, as long as your tribe is in charge.
