Brown University will again require that applicants submit standardized-test scores, university officials announced Tuesday, making it the third Ivy League school to reinstate that pre-pandemic admission norm in recent weeks.

The school will continue to give an advantage to applicants whose parents attended or work at Brown, and will still allow students to apply early, if they choose.

Like officials at Yale University and Dartmouth College, both of which recently announced they would resume requiring standardized tests from applicants, officials at Brown said research indicated that SAT and ACT scores are highly predictive of students’ academic performance in college.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Despite it's name, only 7.8% of students at Brown are African American, so it's not like diversity was exactly running amok.

(42% are white, and 20% are "non-resident alien" which I never realised was a race.)

      I was only joking

It would seem that in the US it is. Up here we just call them foreign students or students on visas. Usually the former.

        Elbows up!

So one question is whether those categories are mutually exclusive. It's a well known trick of universities to admit minorities of high diversity value from wealthy families outside of America in order to pad their diversity statistics.

          Education is extremely important.

Up here we just enroll aboriginals and charge the foreign students big $$$ to subsidize the Natives.

It's safe to assume a decent number of foreign students are from China, but I'd guess a fair number are from Europe too.

There are wealthy families in Africa and the Caribbean too. Claudine Gay's family being one.

Well, they don't say 'Black' in their statistics, but 'African-American', and there's only 7.8%, so I can't imagine they're fiddling the stats very much.

It's well established that they've fiddled with admissions plenty to get even those stats. I guess the % of black students might go up if they distributed the 20% foreign by race, but I don't know.

Do they check arrest records, or only convictions?
