A newly introduced bill (SF 3554) would restrict the sale of "solvent-based paint materials" to gallon-sized containers unless you obtain the newly minted "paint contractor license".

Gone are the days of staining your own deck or painting your own shed with the hard stuff...enjoy your water-based primer unless you have a connect. Who would save us from DIY projects if not the government?

And the bill also creates the "Paint Contractor Board", a club ripe for political graft and regulatory capture.

In reality, this is a case study in occupational licensing and protectionism. By creating barriers to entry, incumbent firms, unions, and laborers are shielded from competition. It's a shameful handout to special interests.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

BTW, I know I'm just a dumbass ol' country boy, but what's to stop anybody from buying five one gallon buckets and pouring them into a five gallon bucket?

I find the water based hybrid stains made by ICI stand up better to weather than any oil based exterior stains I used in past.

Minimal odour as well after application.

          Elbows up!
