But, even seated, you can see the joy in his face as he conducts.
I wonder about the "lights going out." If everything went dark, I assume the musicians would not be able to see the score. Do they have this music committed to memory. Granted, the Dvorak 7 is not obscure, but...
I remember seeing Haitink conduct the Mahler 7 - he must've been in his early 90s. Still a lot of vigor - once the music started. Interesting that, as a group, conductors seem to be long-lived. Muti, Solti, Haitink, de Waart.
Bernstein might've been the exception.
