A little anecdote to tell the tale… The Buffalo delay screwed the Steelers schedule up drastically. They were in their Saturday walkthrough practice planning on going straight to the plane afterward and fly up to Buffalo when they got word about the postponement. Everyone was sent home. Cam called one of the kids he was counseling and had him come to his house to help him with college applications. The kid comes over, they start working on the applications when Cam gets called by the team, they need the Captains back at the facility to go over the changes to the schedule and possible game plan tweaks… So he takes the kid with him and works with him between meetings… And while he’s in meetings he gets some of the administrative folk to work with the kid..

A lot of players have charitable foundations, they help with fundraising and make a personal appearance or two. Cam actually walks the walk.

One of the things he does with these kids is the idea that “every young man needs to have at least 1 suit. Graduation, interviews, whatever, every young man needs a suit and appropriate accouterments. He takes these young men to a tailor and the foundation buys them suits…

By the way, while parts of the foundation are certainly for kids at need, it isn’t limited to just kids at need. The boy he was helping with the college applications was a middle class white kid…

The Walter Payton award is perhaps the most coveted award in the league.

That patch means something and once awarded, a player wears it on his jersey until he retires from the league.

          Good on him!
