Do you like all those sensors?
Back up camera, 360° view cameras, proximity alerts, blind spot monitors, collision avoidance auto breaking, driver assistance that keeps you in lane or even parks the car for you …

I reckon we are in this transition period where the insurers know the cost of these additional parts and system but haven’t the actuarial data to adjust for the reduced risks brought by these additional parts and systems.

Actually, I think I can drive pretty well without them.

About the only new technologies I can see being used, is the ability to disable some smartphone functions while the car is moving and the (dirt cheap) backup camera.

Yeah - repair cost on this stuff is through the roof. That said, some tech features must be pushing down collisions and costs as well: automatic collision-detection braking, lane change monitors (and intervention), etc.

I think the problem is that cell phones are probably driving up collisions at the same time. In countries with more manual transmissions collision rates are relatively lower over the last 10 or so years - presumably because you can't use a smartphone with a stick shift easily.

No. They’ve been mandated since 2017 and were common five years before that. The actuarial data was actually used as part of the argument to mandate backup cameras.

Correction, backup cameras have been mandated. Point still stands.

I saw a poll and I thought it was somewhat funny but true. Something like 80% of male drivers consider themselves to be an above average driver. LOL

Everybody on the highway that is driving faster than me are lunatics and a danger to themselves and others and shouldn’t be on the road.

Everybody on the highway driving slower than me are incompetent drivers and are obviously petrified and a danger to themselves and others and shouldn’t be on the road.

@LuFins-Dad, the obvious solution is the transporter; virtually Scotty would just beam you anywhere, instantly.

Maybe the speed restrictors that California is proposing is the answer.
