Weird thing is the panel looks fine. No scorch marks, the door isn’t bent, just blown open

I’d thought there would have had to be one hell of an arc to do that to the door that would leave plenty of scorching on the inside.

Had a good friend who was a master electrician. Wired control panels in nuclear plants electrician.
He was once in a flooding situation where he had to flip a 300 amp breaker. Burned one eyebrow off...

In university I worked a few summers for the rural power utility taking trouble calls during weekends and evenings when thunder storms were rolling about. Our area was all central and northern Alberta. The switching centre in which I worked was a 800 square foot shack adjacent to the main substation for the area. Seems to me there were at least six or seven 250 KVA feeds going into the station. Once one of operators invited me out into the sub to observe him open a hot 250 KVA air breaker by hand wheel in the station. He told me not to look up at under any circumstances at the air break while he was opening it as the arc would result in immediate flash burns to my eyes. To this day over fifty years later, I can still hear the ear splitting roar and crackle of the lightening bolt above our heads and the lingering smell ozone that hung in the air for five or more minutes after.
