Do you believe Barbara Lee?

I don't. The story just registers as a baldfaced lie.

To whatever extent these anecdotes play to the narrative that underlies all American leftism, it's never a bad idea to imagine that it's just some white troll doing their part for the cause, and bestowing upon a high status black person the great gift of a relatable direct experience with rabid racism.

The South Carolina senator spoke of multiple instances in which he felt he had been unfairly targeted by police because of the color of his skin, including one encounter with the U.S. Capitol Police. Scott, who is black, said that as recently as last year he was stopped by a Capitol Police officer who did not recognize him as a senator even though he was wearing his member’s pin.
“The pin, I know. You, I don’t,” Scott recalled the officer saying with “a little attitude.” Scott said the tone of the encounter suggested that the officer believed he was impersonating a senator.
The South Carolina Republican said he received a call later that evening from a Capitol Police supervisor apologizing for the officer’s behavior. It was the third such call he has received from either the chief of the Capitol Police or a supervisor since joining the Senate in 2013, he said.

I remember the story from last year where a progressive white woman let a scruffy looking black gentleman into her apartment building, and then rode the elevator up with him. She never exited the elevator alive. Bad luck for her, but reasonable to think, as many do, that her politics played a role in shutting down what must have been her instincts, and indeed the rules about letting strangers into the building, as she made her final split second decision to open the door for him.
Progressive white women, the real cultural conservatives, are all about condemning cringe and gross and disgusting behaviors and people, except when their instincts conflict with their oppression narratives. Then they'll go against their instincts, as if expunging themselves of original sin.
